Planar transistors have been the core of integrated circuits for several decades, during
which the size of the individual transistors has steadily decreased. Rapid and predictable
miniaturization was predicted by Moore ’ s law [3] ; this has allowed the semiconductor
industry to make new products with added functions with each new generation of
technology ( Figure 2.11 ).
This predictable scaling is now reaching its limit [4] and has forced the industry to look
