Open-Circuit Inductance (OCL)
In Fig. 9.1 we show how a transformer behaves when we apply a square pulse to it, as opposed to applying a sine wave to it. We remember that a transformer only passes changes in voltages to the other winding, as per the induced EMF (Faraday’s/Lenz’s) law, which leads to what we call transformer action. So if there is only DC voltage present across the main (primary) winding, on the other (secondary) winding (placed on the same core), we will get no (zero) induced voltage.
