5. MMI and Recording: Introduction

What is man (/human) machine interface (MMI/HMI)? In the industrial design field, man (/human) machine interface is where people meet the technology. This is the place where man interacts with machines/processes for effective analysis, control, and operation of the system. Machines operate in a way unnatural to humans, so MMI translates these machine actions into a format intelligible to humans and vice versa. Starting from small switches, the display device forms part of the MMI.
