The designs previously described have worked particularly well for me, but
there are many varying implementations along the same principles of operation.
If a different design approach is being contemplated, keep one thing in mind—
the start-up period of the switching power supply is the most traumatic period
in its operational life. That is, more failures occur during the start-up period
