Extending the Pipeline

ASP.NET Web API is a framework. The key defining attribute of a framework is that it controls the execution flow and calls the application-specific code written by a developer like you at the appropriate time. You don’t call the framework but it calls your code, in line with the Hollywood principle of “don’t call us, we’ll call you.” The most fundamental lever that you use to harness the power of the ASP.NET Web API framework in building a service is the controller, the ApiController subclass that you write.
