Practical Data Migration

STAGE 1 PROJECT CONTROLS

This is the most iterative section of the data migration project. This stage will not follow the traditional waterfall ‘Analyse ‘ Design ‘ Build‘ steps of a standard development project. As project manager you will be controlling this section of the project by:

• time slicing;

• creating work packages to analyse Key Business Areas;

• predicting the number and complexity of Data Quality Rules activities from the number of Legacy Data Stores identified, and then the impressionistic data quality assessments contained within them;

• managing each Data Quality Rule (once they have all been created) as a mini-project in its own right — but be aware that, given the significant business involvement, the elapsed time will exceed the resource ...
