Feature Extraction and Enhancement (Step 3)*
Purpose
The practical purpose of this chapter is to describe in some detail the process of deriving features from raw data (feature extraction), and conditioning them so that their latent information is as accessible as possible (feature enhancement).
This is the most important step in the data mining process, since it is what ultimately determines the success or failure of a data mining project. It is also the single most time consuming step.
