4.2. Light Intensity and Bit Level

Another important consideration is the accuracy and precision of recording light intensity. In the preceding example, the 512 × 512 pixel array is better at quantifying low levels of light than a camera with the same size sensor packed with 1024 × 1024 pixels. The larger individual photosites can collect more light because of their larger surface area, and their size provides a greater degree of quantification. In contrast, a denser pixel count will enable the camera to more accurately record where light falls on the sensor array.
