5.4. Simple Tube Adapters

The availability of simple tube adapters for mounting a digital SLR to a microscope depends on when the microscope was made. Ironically, there are more options for mounting digital SLRs on older microscopes manufactured when film was the primary means of recording experiments. Historically, these adapters were part of a systems concept that SLRs should be usable on any optical instrument. All the major camera manufacturers sought to have microscope adapters for their cameras. Today, this marketing strategy is not practiced, and it is difficult to find a company who produces this accessory. In addition, many modern microscope manufacturers do not provide digital SLR adapters for their current microscopes.
