These days, it is almost unthinkable that a computer would not be connected to a network, and a server is useless without a network connection.

In this chapter, the network interface will be located, an IP address and hostname will be assigned to that network interface, and the gateway that connects this server to the internet, as well as the external DNS servers that translate between hostnames and IP addresses, will be configured.
