Overview
Ever since it was discovered that ill-behaved functions could be
optimized with methods analogous to those that drive evolution to
produce superior individuals, research into such methods has flour-
ished. One chapter of a book cannot begin to do justice to what
promises to be a fertile new field. The interested reader is directed to
[Davis, 1991] for a very readable and broad introduction to genetic
algorithms. More mathematical rigor and explicit programs can be
found in [Goldberg, 1989].
