A couple of years ago the Senior Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric Healthcare, Joseph M Hogan, while he was visiting Finland, presented his vision of the digital hospital of the future. According to Hogan, all activities in the digital hospital are based on electronic information processing; the hospital of the future is paperless, filmless and wireless. As technology advances, the time needed for laboratory analysis will be reduced to couple of seconds and, for writing reports, from hours to mere minutes.
