Generic versus discipline-specific skills

Several issues stand out among the many that are of importance to the teaching of information literacy at colleges and universities. One major issue is whether there exist generic information skills that can be taught without teaching at least some disciplinary content. A second set of closely interrelated issues is what types of instructional formats are best suited for teaching information literacy, what forms of collaboration between library faculty and discipline-based faculty should exist, and when in the educational experience information literacy should be taught.
