Statistics and Probability
IN THIS CHAPTER
Creating and analyzing visual representations of data
Determining the probability of an event
Writing numbers in scientific notation
Trying out some practice questions and reviewing the answers
The probability of you becoming a statistician immediately after you finish this chapter is about one out of infinity; meaning it’s not very likely to happen. Statistics is the study of simple, real-life facts and figures — such as the number of students who passed or failed a math quiz or the number of people who access Facebook on their cellphone versus their computer. Statistical data can be thought of as data that’s analyzed, averaged, and displayed in tables and graphs.
The review in this chapter also focuses on probability, which deals with how likely something is to happen. So, we can easily say that you’re likely to be asked to solve probability problems on the Praxis Core exam, given that we know that there are about 18 questions on the exam that deal with statistics and probability.
