Making Ripple and Rolling Edits
When two clips are side by side in a track in the timeline, you can perform a ripple or rolling edit. You can make ripple or rolling edits by using tools in the Timeline window or by using trim mode.
In a ripple edit, you change the duration of one clip but do not affect the duration of the adjacent clips. After you ripple-edit the edge of a clip, all adjacent clips shift in the timeline to compensate for the change, in a ripple effect. Therefore, the total length of the program changes (Figures 7.12 and 7.13). You can ripple-edit in and out points in the timeline and in trim mode. (Older versions of Premiere didn’t permit you to ripple-edit an in point in the timeline.)
