Preparing for Capture
As you have already discovered, digital video thrives on a fast processor, speedy drives, and even additional (and often expensive) hardware.
In addition to using powerful hardware, you can take certain steps to maximize your computer’s performance:
Quit all other applications.
Turn off file-sharing software, at least temporarily.
Disable other unnecessary operating-system features.
Choose a fast, large disk or disk array as your scratch disk for digitizing (see “Choosing a Scratch Disk” later in this chapter).
Defragment hard disks with a reliable disk utility to optimize their performance.
Select compression settings that do not exceed the capabilities of your system.
