CHAPTER AT A GLANCE
- The Atlantic Charter was first announced on 14th August 1941 by the USA and the UK. It was one of the first steps toward the establishment of the United Nations. It gave a broad outline on a postwar international system. It emphasized on supporting the restoration of self-government for all countries that had been occupied during the war and a nation’s right to choose its own government.
- Yalta Conference was held in February 1945 to discuss the future progress of the Second World War, the postwar world and the formation and operation of the new United Nations. It was attended by the US President Roosevelt, the British Prime Minister Churchill and the Soviet leader Stalin.
