Chapter 24 Mastered Systems – Golden Rules and Measures
Data (including, but not limited to business data, content, and operational data) should be handled rigorously. Data items should be mastered, and their transit through systems and way-points carefully managed. Values, identifiers, classifiers, mnemonics, and other descriptors (i.e. metadata) are handled with the utmost rigor.
Treat data the same way you would treat money. If you were transporting money throughout your organization and to / from customers, you would take great care to keep it safe everywhere it was stored and during transit between storage locations. That is how you should handle data as well.
