The Radar-Based Through-the-Wall Surveillance System is being funded by the National Institute of Justice. This system is to be used by the law enforcement community to track the movement of suspects in the interior of a building. This device will track an individual through an 8-inch wall up to a distance of 75 feet from the device. That would permit a police officer to track someone through most homes without the officer having to move. The fact that this device fits into a suitcase would make it easy for operators to move it around as they use it. According to a June 2001, Supreme Court ruling, however, this device cannot be used without a warrant.
