Encrypting Local Data

When storing application data on the user's computer, consider the possibility that the user may be sharing the computer with others at home or at work. ACLs can be used to protect access to the data file, but an additional way to protect the file is to encrypt it. One easy way to do this is to use the Encrypted File System feature that comes with the Windows operating system. (Of course, other mechanisms can be used to encrypt files.) The sample application has a command under the Help menu labeled Privacy Report. Selecting this command brings up a dialog that a support person might use to log a privacy issue.
