Hippocratic Databases

Hippocratic databases[15] go beyond securing data and protecting privacy and attempt to attain the elusive goal of policy compliance. New legislation such as the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), Patriot Act, and the Sarbanes Oxley Act have placed increased pressure on companies to not only limit access to data, but to ensure that all accesses follow the practices prescribed by the various pieces of privacy legislation. Implementing a Hippocratic database can effectuate compliance with privacy legislation as well as privacy guidelines such as Safe Harbor.
