You can’t classify your cloud architecture simply by where the services you offer are hosted (on-premises or off-premises) because it’s possible to have an on- or off-premises cloud and a combination of the two. When contemplating which option is better, the distinctions come down to cost and control. The differences are as true of SharePoint in the cloud as they are of all out-of-the-box (OOB) solutions vs. fully customised solutions: for greater cost you gain greater control, but it takes much more work and time to complete.
