Webcam and Microphone Input

One of the more hyped additions to Silverlight 4 is support for video and audio input, through a user's webcam and microphone. This opens the door to new types of rich Internet applications, from video conferencing to real-time chat in a multiplayer game. However, although this door is open, the opening is a very narrow one. To create a realistic application that incorporates user-recorded audio or video, you'll be forced to write pages of custom code, perform complex encoding and decoding, and rely on external libraries to get support for the formats you need.
