Paul R. Garvey, PhD, is chief scientist for the Center for Acquisition and

Management Sciences at The MITRE Corporation. Dr. Garvey is widely

published in the application of risk and decision analytic methods to engi-

neering systems problems. He is the author of two other textbooks published

by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press: Analytical Methods for Risk Management

(2008) and Advanced Risk Analysis for Engineering Enterprise Systems (2012).

Dr. Garvey completed his AB and MSc in pure and applied mathematics
