6.1  THE WORLD OF INEQUALITIES

The Probability Theory took some time to establish itself as a branch of Mathematics because, in the beginning, it was associated with gambling. Pierre-Simon de Laplace (1749–1827) consolidated the subject’s foundations, although it was only in the 1930s, with the works of Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov (1903–1987), that the axiomatic structure of probability became definitively established.
