SHORT-TERM GAGE CAPABILITY EVALUATION FOR VARIABLES

First we have to establish that our measurement gage is in control and capable—accurate and precise—in the short term, namely in a day or at most in a week. After establishing short-term gage capability, we can extend our gage capability investigation to the long term, namely to a month or more. After verifying that our measurement gage is in control and capable in the long term, we need to keep monitoring our gage with our production line standards in fixed periods, that is, hourly, daily, or weekly, and control the chart standards’ measurements to verify continuously our gage’s in-control status.
