Chapter 4 In-Process Downtime

It’s hard for some to fathom, but you can actually have downtime while your process is “running.” Sounds a bit outlandish, doesn’t it? “Downtime” and “running?” When you step back and think about it, there can be some sense made from it – after all, many processes are made up of multiple pieces of equipment. You can see how the overall process could be running, but you have downtime associated with an individual piece of equipment. But I am going to go one step further and state that you can have downtime even if your process is a single piece of equipment, while that equipment is “running!”
