• Deliverables should describe the project outcome from the custom-
er’s perspective.
• Detail user wants and needs in order of priority. The list should
start with the “must have” and end with the “it would be nice to
have” features.
• Never confuse the “wants” of your organization with the “needs”
of real customers.
• Express what is required in the product, not how to achieve the
end result.
• Deliverables should be measurable and veriable goals for the
project team to work toward. Whether they were met should not
be a matter of debate.
• “Other goals will be added as we think of them,” is not an accept-
able option.
• Avoid ambiguous requirements, such as “the customer must ...
