374 Process Techniques for Engineering High-Performance Materials
• The only QC inspector on the shift, who is reinspecting a rejected
order, in the hope that it will pass the second time.
• Look for sources of yield loss and process inconsistency. Monitor the
mass balance of the material in and out of each node. Evaluate the
effect of batch-to-batch raw material variation.
• Be prepared to understand every cost associated with each order.
This will allow the management to see which special products or
process steps are creating inefciencies. (Warning—will the work
needed to record detailed accounting information cause more prob-
lems than it xes?)
• If the raw material for an order must be expedited, add the extra
costs for quick deliv
