The nitrogen-rich character of these ILs allowed, by direct combustion, to obtain
nitrogen-doped carbons with remarkable nitrogen contents of up to 18 at% [88].
Interestingly, the authors demonstrated that the carbonization yield depended on the
nitrile character of the anions so that the resulting carbon network can be cross-
linked via both cations and anions.
