191Conversion of Cellulose and Cellulose-Derived Platform Chemicals
of 230°C without a catalyst, a conversion of 24% into different water-soluble spe-
cies (5% glucose) is observed. Pure CMK-3 (50 mg catalyst with 324mg cellulose)
increases the conversion to 54%, and the glucose yield to 21%. Ru/CMK-3 was pre-
pared by impregnation of CMK-3 with dissolved RuCl
3
and subsequent drying and
reduction under hydrogen atmosphere. A varying Ru loading of 2, 5, and 10 wt%
gave increased cellulose conversions of 59%, 62%, and 68%, and glucose yields
of 28%, 29%, and 34%, respectively. The catalyst can be reused without struc-
