AS WITH ALL MAJOR technological changes, PLM is not without its issues to be addressed—from technological barriers to social issues. This chapter will explore some of these major issues. On the technology side, the chapter will discuss issues such as federated spaces, information provenance, identity, and technology that connects real to virtual space. From the social side, the chapter will explore issues regarding intellectual property ownership, security, and privacy. Although it doesn’t provide solutions, the chapter will point to the direction that future research and discussion should take.
