Uneven Mean Service Times and Buffer Sizes
We now come to the second part of the combined two-source imbalance section, and here we intend to look at how best to allocate buffer capacity when we have operators working at different average speeds at the various workstations along the line. You are becoming very familiar by now with the procedures and terminology that we use, so we will get straight down to business and discuss which configurations we have simulated and what effects these configurations have had on performance. If needed, you can refer back to the sections on single-source mean operation time effects and uneven buffering effects to remind yourself of the issues involved.
