It is usual for books of instruction to be full of rules on how to do this and how not to do the other and, in this respect, this book follows the tradition by proposing that there is one golden rule for the production management of films and that is that there are no golden rules.

However, there are some strong business guidelines which need to be followed if a production is to reach a successful conclusion. These guidelines have nothing to do with the art of programme-making but everything to do with the business of programming.
