3 Health and Safety Management
Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 stipulates that every employer with five or more staff must have a written health and safety policy. For those small companies without a policy guidance is available from the HSE (see Essentials of Health and Safety at Work, ISBN 0-7176-0716-X and A Guide to Preparing a Safety Policy Statement for Small Business, HSE c100/10/95, ISBN 0-7176-0424-1). Also useful is John Ridley’s Risk Management published by Butterworth-Heinemann and Allan St John Holt’s Principles of Health and Safety at Work, IOSH Publishing.
