4.3. Creating Report Projects Using BIDS
Now that you know where to find BIDS, let's go through what you can do with it. The next sections of this chapter will walk you through creating a report using BIDS and will allow you to use the tool windows and report items detailed in earlier sections. Please note that in this chapter you will not go into all of the details of creating the report. The goal of this section is to get you prepared for the next chapter, where you will be creating your first report using BIDS. So let's go ahead and start by creating a project. To create a new Report Server Project in BIDS, click the File New Project menu item. (Depending on your version of the Visual Studio your settings, you might need to click on File New Project.)
Once you do this, you will get the New Project dialog box, as shown in Figure 4-37. As you can see from Figure 4-37, the templates available through BIDS are not just reporting-services related. There are also analysis services and integration services projects available to you. The templates used for report projects are:
