18.2. Table Analytics

Table Analytics, one of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2007, helps you to analyze the tables within Excel spreadsheets. You will use the sample Excel spreadsheet DMAddins_SampleData.xlsx shipped with the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2007 to learn about the Table Analytics component. To start using Table Analytics, follow these steps:

  1. Open the sample spreadsheet DMAddins_SampleData.xlsx by clicking Start All Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 DM Add-ins Sample Excel Data.

    You see the default page of the Excel Sample Data spreadsheet. The spreadsheet has nine sheets that contain sample data to highlight various features of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2007.

  2. Click the sheet named Table Analytics Tools Sample.

  3. In the sheet click one of the cells in the table. You see additional tabs in the Excel Ribbon called Analyze and Design.

  4. Click the Analyze Ribbon. You see the various Table Analytics features from the Table Analytics Tools add-in as icons shown in Figure 18-2. Each icon is used to perform specific tasks on your table to provide results from which you can potentially take ...
