Chapter 24

Application Deployment Options

WHAT’S IN THIS CHAPTER?

  • Deploying a Compact 7 application

A Windows Embedded Compact 7 device is designed to serve designated functions and tasks, and requires a specialized application to serve the device’s intended purpose.

Unlike the desktop PC environment, where it’s common to distribute a software application as an installable package to the end-user, and allow the end-user to install the application on their PC, the specialized purpose of Compact 7 application needs to be deployed onto the Compact 7 device prior to distributing the device to the end-user.

To ensure the device can maintain an expected level of performance to serve the intended purpose, many Compact 7 devices are designed with restrictions to prevent the end-user from installing additional software to the device.

This chapter looks at different options to deploy an application on a Compact 7 device.
