DEPLOYING COMPACT 7 APPLICATIONS

Throughout the Compact 7 development process, there may be different types of applications created to serve different purposes to support the development effort. Some of the applications are not intended to be distributed to the end user.

For an application that needs to be deployed as part of the Compact 7 device to the end-user, you need to consider the following factors as part of the application deployment plan:

  • Throughout the device’s life, will there be the need to update the application?
  • Throughout the device’s life, will there be the need to provide updated data to support the application?
  • When the device needs to be serviced and requires the end-user to use a replacement unit, will there be the need for the end-user to export the device configuration and user data from the unit being replaced and import this data to the new replacement unit?
  • When the device requires service due to system errors and failure, how will the device be serviced?
  • Additional considerations unique to the device or industry you work in.

The type of device, application, and end-user scenario for the device can have a strong influence on your choice for deployment mechanism for applications on the Compact 7 devices.
