SUMMARY

BSP is one of the key ingredients needed to develop an OS design to generate OS run-time image for the target device. A BSP package contains hardware dependent codes, including low-level device driver and OAL codes that require a strong software development background and knowledge about the hardware. Developing a BSP from the ground up can be complex and may take weeks, or even months, to complete. With a quality BSP, the effort to develop a customized OS run-time image is greatly simplified. The exercises in this chapter, in addition to showing the steps to clone and customize BSP, provide information to help you understand the structure and inner components within the BSP, which is essential to perform BSP development work.
