is book attempts to give some practical and useful insights into the sci-
ence and art of program management in high-tech, complex environments.
It attempts to weave theory and practical experience to be a resource to
current program managers (PMs) and to those individuals who are begin-
ning or considering a program management career. My own experience
was that, as a young engineer, I considered program management a kind
of superuous position—the real nuts and bolts of a program were done by
