It is not an exaggeration to say that without Dr. Hans Gerdes, I might not be here. I have a genetic predisposition to a number of cancers that have kept me working with Dr. Gerdes for many years. Like all doctors at major cancer centers such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Dr. Gerdes has access to all sorts of technology that is useful when treating a difficult case such as mine. The technology is useful, but not sufficient. Dr. Gerdes listens to me, understanding my feelings and needs, and helps me to interpret the findings that the technology provides.
