The “No Time for Planning” Trap

Unfortunately, the “No Time for Planning” trap is one of the most prevalent reasons why many organizations hobble along for years before adopting an overall project management approach. The trap is easy to fall into, and—even more insidious—it’s easy to get agreement from fellow hobblers that stopping to examine and improve existing processes is just too expensive a luxury in today’s demanding world. Stephen Covey and others have shown time and again that balancing urgent and important tasks is essential to effectiveness. It takes courage and commitment to escape the trap of failing to plan, but the payoff for escaping is immeasurable.
