PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS

It allows a hostile force to quickly overwhelm a protective detail, trapping
them inside their vehicle with little opportunity to move and engage the
threat. The attacks on Aldo Moro on March 16, 1978, in Italy by members
of the Red Brigades is a perfect example of the use of the swarm attack, as
is the Red Army Faction (RAF) targeted attack on Hans Martin Schleyer
on September 5, 1977. The technique is characterized by an adversarial
force attacking a target from multiple angles. It has often been employed
in conjunction with vehicle intercept attacks. For the protective team, the
problem becomes being trapped inside of a vehicle (essentially one big
death trap) while being attacked from two or more directions
