Preface

Every mature technical subject has its own distinct point of view—favorite methods, cherished formulas, standard examples, preferred algorithms, characteristic projects, common folklore, pet principles and paradigms. Initially, computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) grew out of approximation theory and numerical analysis, adapting the tools of these disciplines for its own devices. Differential, algebraic, and projective geometry also contributed to the development of CAGD, which borrowed heavily from each of these fields.
