1: Nomenclature

The reader who is not familiar with the literature of quadrupoles may find the following glossary helpful; a similar German-language list has been compiled by Scherzer (1965).

ANAMORPHOTIC producing nonuniform or anisotropic magnification; an anamorphotic system suffers from first order distortion.

ANASTIGMATIC free of, or corrected for, third-order astigmatism (cf. stigmatic).
