Abstract:

In this chapter, we describe the use of individual nitrogen–vacancy (NV) centers in diamond as nanoscale sensors for magnetic-field detection and imaging. We start by reviewing the original proposals and first proof-of-concept experiments for NV magnetometry and then discuss recent applications of this emerging technology. Special emphasis will be placed on recently achieved imaging of nanomagnetic structures and single electron spins.
