Gathered in a huge conference room, surrounded by a wall of windows and a beautiful city view, there was something extra special about this day at the office. There I was, celebrating a big win for the company I worked for—a massive new contract we'd brought in. The firm rolled out the red carpet too, with elegant jazz music playing, tons of yummy gourmet eats, and bubbling champagne (my favorite!)—not a normal feature at the office.

I mingled and mixed, feeling excitement about the good news and a little nervous, too, given the big crowd and big energy gathered together on this day. I made myself a heaping plate and poured some bubbly—then seeing a friend outside, I excitedly made for the balcony.

That's when I heard it. A loud “Thwap.”

Right there, with everyone—including our CEO and leadership team in the mix, I had walked briskly—with purpose and momentum—into the glass wall. My food and champagne were dripping down the front of my pink dress and my face … well, it hurt!

All the air had exited my lungs. I felt like the most inept, disgraceful creature alive in that moment.

Later that day, as I iced my face at home, I felt certain that I'd never live this down. That everyone's eyes would bore into me when they saw me.

But then, a little, itty-bitty thought started to simmer in my mind. One that I couldn't help but latch onto.

What if no one cares?
