In Chapter 2, I discuss how to create service items and non-inventory items in any QuickBooks company. In this chapter, I show you how to track physical inventory items, which you can do only in Plus and Advanced companies. I then discuss purchase orders, which are non-posting transactions that document orders for goods and services you’ve placed with one or more vendors.
Keep in mind that inventory tracking in QuickBooks Online is rather simplistic. My technical editor Dan DeLong sums it up as “I buy some stuff, and then I sell that stuff.” For instance, let’s say that you buy shoes. It’s unlikely that you’re altering those shoes in any way; you’re probably turning around and simply selling those shoes to someone else, ideally at a higher price than you paid.
