The Requirement for Reserve Forces
Armed forces have always found themselves short of trained manpower at critical moments when a surge in the size of the force is needed quickly. It is therefore prudent to have arrangements to recall people who have served in the armed services at relatively short notice. Some accept a reserve commitment following their previous regular service. There are also trained members of the volunteer reserves.
